Introducing GRIDLIFE ROADSTER MODIFIED the first of our new Club Classes built by the community and refined by GRIDLIFE. GRIDLIFE Roadster Modified will run at all TrackBattle Rounds including festival this season.

Roadster Modified 2 (RM2)
Target HP: 100hp-155hp

CHASSIS / AERO

  • All vehicles must be an original Mazda Miata/MX-5 chassis with allowances for modification to the driver seat pan to facilitate seat mounting. Modification of the chassis forward of the front shock towers and aft of the rear shock towers is permitted.Doors may be gutted for clearance of door bars on 6pt or greater roll cage but must remain OEM material. Quarter panels must remain OEM material. Alternate materials for bumper covers, hood, trunk, hardtop, & fenders are allowed. 

  • Vehicles are permitted to run two significant aero modifications at the rear and one at the front, e.g., rear spoiler + diffuser + splitter. See #GRIDLIFE technical glossary for definition of significant aero. 

  • All aero must remain within 5” of the OEM lines as viewed from above. Rear wing may be as wide as the distance between side mirrors or 5” from OEM body lines, whichever is greater.

  • Up to 4 canards at the front of the vehicle are permitted in addition to significant aero. Canards may not protrude more than 5” beyond the OE bodywork.

  • Active aero is prohibited. Aero components must be sufficiently rigid as to not Warp or bend at speeds in a beneficial way

  • Dual element wings are prohibited. Dual element wings may be taped together with heavy-duty tape that will not come off during the session. If the tape does come off, that session will be disqualified.

  • Flat bottom floors are prohibited. Full undertrays (“flat bottom”) are prohibited. Barge boards are permitted but may not extend past the inside edge of the OEM frame rails. Splitters and undertray may go to the mid-point of the front wheels. Diffusers may go to the mid-point of the rear wheels.

  • Replacing factory windshield glass with polycarbonate (Lexan) is prohibited. All other glass may be removed or replaced with polycarbonate.

  • No component of the rear wing air foil may be higher than the highest point of the vehicle structure.  Radio antennas are not considered part of the vehicle structure.

  • Overfenders or fender rolling may be used if wheel openings do not change rough dimensions when viewed from the horizontal perspective.

ENGINE / DRIVETRAIN

  • Gearbox must be OEM. Aftermarket (close ratio , sequential, straight cut, etc)  gearsets are prohibited. Transmission swaps are allowed for longevity, however internals of chosen gearbox may not be modified and gearbox must come as original equipment in a mass produced vehicle (ie: BMW transmission swap, etc).

  • Leaded, Unleaded and E85 fuels are permitted.

  • Only factory(internal) block BP/B6 engines are permitted in NA/NB chassis.  If built with forged internals with reliability in mind, compression must be within .5:1 of factory, and upgraded cams are not permitted. Port and polishing is not permitted  

  • Only factory block (internals) MZR (LF-VE) engines are permitted in NC chassis.

  • Only factory (internal) block SkyActiv-G (PE-VPS) engines are permitted in ND chassis.

  • Forced induction is prohibited. (Mazdaspeed NB models may participate in RM-1 if converted to naturally aspirated).

  • Nitrous is prohibited.

SUSPENSION / TIRES

  • Vehicles must use a DOT approved tire with a minimum UTQG Rating of 100 or higher. Tires from other markets EU, JP are permitted as long as they match the UTQG Rating.

  • Maximum tire width: 245

  • Suspension is limited to two adjustments (Dampening valving).

  • Active suspension components are not permitted.

  • Suspension pickup points must remain OEM.

  • The top of the tire may not protrude past the widest point of the wheel arch when viewed from above. Body lines may not be altered. Over-fenders may be added if wheel openings do not change rough dimensions, when viewed from the horizontal perspective, when fenders are rolled.

INTERIOR / MISC

  • All interior trim and components (dash, panels, carpet, etc) may be removed. Climate systems and controls may be removed. Passenger seat may be removed. Convertible soft top may be removed.

  • Roll cages are not permitted to extend beyond the firewall.

CHASSIS / AERO

  • All vehicles must be an original Mazda Miata chassis with allowances for modification to the seat pan to facilitate seat mounting. Modification of the chassis forward of the front shock towers and aft of the rear shock towers is permitted.

  • Alternate materials for bumper covers, hood, trunk, hardtop & fenders are allowed. Fenders and quarter panels may be modified if over-fenders, flares, or wide-body is added.

  • Doors may be an alternative material if alternative side impact protection is installed. i.e., 6 point or greater cage with door bars.

  • Vehicles are permitted to run two significant aero modifications at the rear and front.

  • Dual element wings are permitted.

  • Up to 4 canards at the front and rear of the vehicle are permitted.

  • Active aero is prohibited. 

  • A front windshield must be installed. Factory glass windshield or polycarbonate of ¼” or thicker may be installed as alternative.

  • Flat bottom floors are prohibited. Full undertrays (“flat bottom”) are prohibited. Barge boards are permitted but may not extend past the inside edge of the OEM frame rails. Splitters and undertray may go to the mid-point of the front wheels. Diffusers may go to the mid-point of the rear wheels.

  • Aftermarket forced induction is permitted on  Miata/MX-5 engines only. Rotating assembly maybe be forged for longevity purposes. Transmission swaps are allowed for longevity, however internals of chosen gearbox may not be modified and gearbox must come as original equipment in a mass produced vehicle (ie: BMW transmission swap, etc). Sequential, straight cut, or aftermarket close ratio transmission internals are not permitted.

  • Engine swaps are permitted provided they are 4 cylinders or less or 2 rotors or less. Forced induction is prohibited on engine swaps. Gearbox choice is open for swapped engines.

  • Nitrous is not allowed.

  • Hybrid drivetrains are not permitted.

GLRMU
ROADSTER MODIFIED UNLIMITED

  • All vehicles must be based on an original Mazda Miata chassis. Modifications/materials are open, provided the basic silhouette of the original car is largely maintained.

  • All unlimited car within the Roadster modified class are considered Unlimited Class within the Trackbattle Series. These cars must conform to Unlimited Class safety standards.

  • Cars must be closed wheeled.

  • Nitrous Oxide is permitted with proper blow down tube and mounting.

  • OEM and Aftermarket Hybrid Drives are permitted.

  • Any fuel is permitted, if Methanol is used GRIDLIFE & Track Staff must be notified.

  • Vehicles must adhere to all safety rules.

  • All vehicles must have fire suppression. (minimum: fire extinguisher mounted and accessible within driver's reach).

  • All vehicles must have a minimum 6 point roll cage built to specifications laid out in the #GRIDLIFE GTCR, unless approved by gridlife staff prior to the event.  

  • All drivers must run with a FIA or SFI approved head and neck restraint system. IE: Nextgen / Hans / Zamp.

  • All drivers must wear single-layer or better fire retardant drivers suit, along with fire retardant gloves, socks & shoes.
